Are Teenagers Ready to Have Children?

In today’s society, it is getting more and more socially acceptable to have a child as teenagers. MTV’s show “16 and Pregnant” made it apparent that it was okay to have  babies as teenagers, and showed some of the many struggles that teen moms face. Then MTV produced a show called “Teen Mom” which showed all of the drama and struggles that the teenager mother had to face as the baby got older. Teenagers are still children themselves and are not ready to have their own babies.
Teenagers miss out on their childhood and a lot of the fun memories that normal people have before having children. There will be no going out, no going to parties, and no time for yourself. Once someone decides to have a child, the decisions that are made all directly impact the child’s life. Teenagers are supposed to make mistakes, but if they make a lot of mistakes while pregnant or even after the baby is born it jeopardizes the baby’s well-being.  Also, statistics show that the majority of teen moms don’t even finish high school. Without the proper education, most teen moms will not find anything besides a minimum wage job. In addition, most teens have trouble even finding a job, therefore not having enough money to support a child. The grandparents often step in to help, and provide financial support to the teen that clearly cannot raise a child on their own.
Teenagers are not ready to have children. They are not mature enough to give up their life for a baby, they will end up not receiving the proper education, and they are not financially stable enough to support and fulfill all of the baby’s needs. The media and society today glorifies having a baby as a teenager, and a lot of the times teenagers believe they are ready to handle a child. But, in reality, all it is is babies having babies, and they will not be as successful as they could potentially be.
